The following guide will walk the player through progressing Slayer all the way to Prestige 5. It includes point usage priority and gear progression.
Slayer Home contains more infomation regarding the Slayer skill.
Unlocks and bonuses take priority during this stage of Slayer. However, all of this should be obtainable during the first levelling phase.
Skipping tasks may be necessary early on, but focus on task streaks should be emphasized.

After reaching level 150 for the first time, the player can enter Slayer Prestige.
During Prestige 1 & 2, gear should be the main focus. However, the player should still work towards 1 unlock after the 3 piece set is obtained.
